Your questions answered

  • How often should I have my eyes examined?

We recommend having your eyes examined every two years. If you are over 60, diabetic, suffer from glaucoma or are over 40 with an immediate family member with glaucoma, we advise a yearly examination. We also advise that children under the age of 16 have their eyesight examined yearly.

  • Do I pay for an eye examination?

All eye examinations in Scotland are now free on the NHS every two years for most people aged 16 to 60.

  • What happens during an eye examination?

A full eye examination takes around 45 minutes. We will measure your vision and issue a prescription if necessary. The examination involves reading various letters from a chart and looking at different lenses to find the one that suits you. The optician will check the health of your eyes.

  • What lenses are best for driving?

Single vision distance glasses are usually our first choice for driving but bifocals and varifocals are also suitable. Anti-reflection coatings on the lenses will help to reduce reflections and glare, especially at night.

  • Can you put my prescription into Oakley sunglasses?

Absolutely. We stock a wide range of sunglasses from all the major brands including Oakley and Ray Ban and can fit prescription lenses to them all.

  • Can you perform a test for glaucoma?

Yes. A glaucoma test is one of the many eyecare services we offer in the practice.
